A Stitcher's Retreat Around the World
The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page.
--Saint Augustine
Clearly stitchers travel from far and near to attend my retreats. I have had people attend from 46 states, Canada, and the UK. And I know they travel other places as well. Hence this page!
Send us your picture wearing or holding your favorite A Stitcher's Retreat t-shirt or sweatshirt in a recognizable location, such as in front of a landmark or monument, or in front of a sign that shows where you are. We will post the photo on this page and give you $10 off your next purchase at The Shop at A Stitcher's Retreat during your next getaway. (Limited to one per stitcher, though you are welcome to send in other photos in the future just for the fun of it.)
Remember, pictures from a vacation or anytime you travel are great, but they do not have to be from a trip. If you live near a landmark or monument, that is perfect as well. For example, live in Ohio? Your picture in front of the world's largest basket in Dresden, Ohio would be perfect. Live in Oregon? How about at Multnomah Falls? Visiting DisneyWorld? How about a photo taken with Mickey Mouse?

Yosemite National Park

Organizer Randy Turner in front of El Capitan, arguably the most
famous landmark at Yosemite.
Rising 3,593 ft -- more than 350 stories -- above the valley, "El
Cap" is the largest exposed
granite monolith in the world. It's almost twice the height of the
Rock of Gibraltar.

Stitchers Shelley Glockner and Cathy Sheehan. Many of you
who have
attended the retreats know Shelley and Cathy as the extremely
generous
stitchers who have brought goodie bag items for everyone, as well as
a doorprize!

Captain Kirsten J. Bergman, US Army is a stitching enthusiast
stationed in
Camp Liberty, Baghdad. Kirsten is the niece of Cathy Sheehan,
a stitcher who has attended our retreats many times.

Stitcher Joanne Brown just outside of Frankfurt.

Roberta Schulz of the wonderful vocal trio Raison
D'Etre. Raison D'Etre has provided
wonderful music at our retreats and will
undoubtedly do so again in the future.
Roberta was attending the Folk Alliance, a conference to promote
traditional folk
music and related performing arts in North America.

Stitchers (from L to R) Jan Esden, Barb Hosler, Cathi Eisley, and
Jennie Stokley
outside the beautiful New Harmony Inn while at the Fall
2005 getaway.
Hawaii
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Hanauma Bay Nature
Preserve

Stitcher Barb Bloemker at one of our unique National Parks. The
park encompasses
environments that range from sea level to the top of Mauna Loa, the
earth's largest volcano.
The park is located on Hawai'i, often called the "Big Island",

Barb also visited Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve in Honolulu.

Organizer Randy Turner attended the 2006 Mayberry Days festival
in
Mt. Airy with his college roommate and another college friend,
both
of who have helped upon occasion at our retreats.
Who ever would have thought I'd get a picture of Andy Griffith
in one of my t-shirts? (Even if he is in bronze!)

And Ron Howard to boot! Randy and his cohorts hurriedly dressed
the statue
erected by TVLand to commemorate this timeless television
classic.

Randy with Betty Lynn who portrayed Thelma Lou.

Trust me, the embroidered retreat logo is right underneath Maggie
Peterson Mancuso's
arm! Maggie played Charlene Darling on the show.

Dick Wagar, Randy's college roommate, in his embroidered retreat
shirt in front
of Floyd's Barber Shop and right by The Snappy Lunch, a diner Andy
ate
at as a child and which he referred to by name on the show.

Great college friend Jim Pelfrey by the afore-mentioned statue
depicting
the opening credits of the show.

Stitcher Trish Bloemker Sowers was part of a group from her
church that spent a week in Ocean Springs, MS doing post-Katrina
clean up efforts. She says, "The devastation is indescribable and
will take many years to rebuild...if ever. I just happened to
have my Stitchers' Retreat shirt along to get a photo in front
of the base camp sign. CORE stands for Christians
Organized for Relief Efforts. Four hundred plus volunteers
from around the country were in camp with us the last week in
June."

Stitcher Vikki Zaninovich in one of the grape vineyards owned
by
her family. The picture was taken in the middle of harvest.
Their vineyard grows premium California table grapes. Visit
their website at http://www.vbzgrapes.com/
and check
out the labels at the bottom of their home page which you
have undoubtedly seen in your local grocery!

Gerard Pottebaum, the father of Randy's wife, Cecilia of
Heart in Hand Needleart
fame, on a visit to her brother
David who currently lives in Indonesia. David's wife, Pann,
is from Bangkok and is seated on the elephant as well.

Pann and our nephew Matthew in a Buddhist temple.

Gerard and Cecilia's other brother, John, who was along for the
visit,
in a cart being pulled by water buffalo.

Many of you who have attended know Gina Eggebrecht, a good
friend of ours who
sometimes helps at our retreats. At the October 2005 retreat Gina
laughingly said
she would take a photo with one of our shirts while in the delivery
room. I guess
I should have realized she wasn't kidding!

Gina and Brad's daughter, Annie! Born December 22, 2005 and, by the
looks of it,
undoubtedly a future stitcher!
New Orleans, Louisiana

Ann Pettit of Brightneedle,
a wonderful cross stitch design company who
has taught at our retreats, sent us this photo. She wrote, "Attached
is a
picture of me in my Stitcher's Retreat shirt that I lived in while
working in
the shelters in the New Orleans area in September. I worked in the
first aid
stations that each shelter has. I'm standing in the ticket area of a
big gym
(it held about 550 shelter victums) on the campus of Nichols State
University where
we set up the clinic. These were all Katrina clients, although while
I was down there
Hurricane Rita hit and we had to open shelters for them also further
down
in the delta. Mostly I wanted you to know that my Stitcher's Retreat
shirt was
my constant throughout a rather traumatic ordeal." I think this is a
great indication
of the wonderful kind of person Ann is!
