About the Greater Cincinnati Shopping Retreat

I have not announced the 2008 retreat to the general public on our web site (there is no link to this page anywhere on the site) at this point.

As a previous attendee, you can feel free to share this information with others if you like but I will not post information on the main site for some time to give you the opportunity to be an early registrant and so increase the likelihood of getting your first choice of teacher for the main class.

October 17-19, 2008

Wingate Inn and Conference Center, West Chester, Ohio

The 20th Retreat hosted by A Stitcher's Retreat!

To our surprise and delight, our previously announced 2008 retreat in Door County is sold out! Due to the high demand and the fact that we realize Ohio is more accessible to many stitchers, we have decided to add a second retreat next year! Our combination stitching and shopping weekends have proved to be among our our most popular and widely attended retreats, so we are delighted to offer another next fall. And as luck would have it, this newly announced getaway will be our 20th Retreat! As a result, attendees can expect a few extra surprises next fall.

Please note that the classes and kits will be the same ones which will be taught at the sold-out Door County retreat. Please also note that this retreat will be limited in size just as the Door County retreat was, so it is possible this retreat could sell out as well.

The Wingate Inn and Conference Center will serve as our base for this one-of-a-kind retreat. All rooms at this beautiful facility have queen size beds, refrigerators, and microwaves. The inn also has an indoor pool and fitness center. As nice as the rooms are, you won't be spending a lot of time in them at our stitching/shopping weekend!

After classes on Friday night, on Saturday morning a luxury bus will transport you on a shopping expedition to the historic town of Waynesville, Ohio, "The Antiques Capital of the Midwest." This quaint, 200-year-old town has over 70 specialty and antique shops and galleries, including a fabulous fabric shop for all your cross stitch finishing needs!

There are many excellent shops carrying a wide selection of the type of primitive and whimsical items that cross stitchers love in this quaint town, voted "One of America's Best Walking Communities" by WALKING Magazine.

Dinner Saturday night will be at the world-famous Montgomery Inn. Specializing in ribs, this restaurant has been named the #1 independent restaurant featuring barbecue in the entire country! The meal will be followed by musical entertainment by the wonderful trio Raison D'Etre. Specializing in tight vocal harmonies and performing a repertoire of everything from Shaker to swing, their three-part harmony blend is not to be missed.

Between all this activity (the stitching/shopping weekends are definitely not as leisurely as my "usual" retreats), every attendee will get four classes from our wonderful line-up of teachers for 2008.

The Teachers

Chessie & Me See a sampling at http://www.turnerretreats.com/chessie.html

Designer Linda Lautenschlager (No, Chessie is the Cat), specializes in "sampler-style" designs using overdyed linens and threads. She has become well known for her House Samplers which often use specialty stitches for architectural details. A very capable and patient teacher, Linda delights in sharing her knowledge with you as well as helpful hints to solve any of your stitching dilemmas.

The Heart's Content http://www.theheartscontent.com

Maureen Appleton's needlework can be described as nothing less than art. Her uniquely detailed one-over-one linen stitching provides incredible clarity of detail. The owner of The Heart's Content, Inc., Maureen's designs are of Colonial and Olde English style. Maureen's gentle personality is reflected in the loving care she gives to her art and her students.

SamSarah Design Studio http://www.samsarahdesignstudio.com

There really is a Sam and a Sarah, who are the "inspiration of attitude" for their designer mom, as well as the namesakes of the company. Whether you know energetic Patti Connor from SamSarah Design Studio or as co-owner of Just Another Button Company, you'll probably recognize her happy, creative style that blends an art and graphic design background with a love of all things fiber.

Don't miss this very popular and unique cross stitch experience!
