About the Door County, Wisconsin Retreat

I have not announced the 2009 retreat to the general public on our web site (there is no link to this page anywhere on the site) at this point.

As a previous attendee, you can feel free to share this information with others if you like but I will not post information on the main site to give you the opportunity to be an early registrant and so increase the likelihood of getting your first choice of teacher for the main class.

October 21-23, 2009

Bridgeport Waterfront Resort, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin

Beautiful Door County, Wisconsin hosts the twentieth cross stitch getaway from A Stitcher's Retreat! Within a day's drive from most of the Midwest, the retreat will be held at the luxurious Bridgeport Waterfront Resort in the historic town of Sturgeon Bay, the "gateway" town to the peninsula which makes up most of Door County.

First settled in 1835, historic Sturgeon Bay is filled with lots of shops and eateries right in town, as well as museums and galleries. While there's more than enough within walking distance to keep you occupied in Sturgeon Bay's downtown waterfront district, if you have a car with you there are other shops in Sturgeon Bay as well that are not within easy walking distance but worth seeking out, such as the Lang Store. For more information on shopping in Sturgeon Bay, visit http://www.sturgeonbay.net/sbtourism/shopping/gifts/default.asp .

You won't want to pass up the opportunity to drive north of Sturgeon Bay up the peninsula and explore the beauty of rural Door County. Named one of the "Top Ten Vacation Destinations in North America" by Money Magazine, Door County sits primarily on the Wisconsin peninsula with the waters of Green Bay on the west and Lake Michigan to the east. Often referred to as "The Cape Cod of the Midwest," the area is wonderful to explore.

Driving along scenic roads with the water often in view, every five or ten miles you come to charming quaint villages filled with locally owned shops, galleries, and restaurants. Walking these villages you will discover numerous craftspeople such as painters and potters. Door County has nearly 100 galleries and museums as well as a number of parks, wineries, and lighthouses.

The retreat will be held at the luxurious Bridgeport Waterfront Resort. Located in the downtown waterfront district adjacent to a marina, the resort is conveniently located to many attractions in Sturgeon Bay. The rooms at this resort are spacious and lovely.

A concert wil again be featured as a very special part of the retreat. The artist will be announced very shortly.
