The Location

The inn grounds are lovely. This is the view of the side of the
conference center. The weather was great the entire retreat; hence, the
two stitchers sitting outside the classroom on a patio.

The inn also has a glass enclosed pool. They plan to build a spa which will
adjoin the pool.

An exterior view of The Roofless Church, just down the street from the inn.
The wood shingled dome that covers the alter rises above the church walls.

The dome from inside the church.

Openings in the church wall overlooks a field and woods.

Plaque just inside the church doors.

This fountain is also in the church. The basin is engraved with this dedication:
In celebration of grandparents for the great goodness
that flows through and from them.

Carol's Garden across from the church is lush with vegetation.

The hedge maze on the edge of town that was built in tribute to the types
of hedge mazes Harmonists traditionally planted in their communities.

The Cathedral Labyrinth just down the street from the inn. The path is
etched into the polished stone.

This fountain is by the labyrinth. Just behind it is the cemetery, which contains
the unmarked graves of the original settlers. One of the Indian burial mounds
preserved by the settlers is visible on the left of the photo.

New Harmony is an unbelievably tranquil town. This is a photo of a
typical street.

In town is a park with a living sculpture called Common Ground. Created by
artist Patrick Dougherty who specializes in sculptures that use their surroundings
in whimsical ways. Sometimes referred to as drawing in space with tree
saplings, Common Ground was created in April 2003 with willow,
maple, ash, and elm.

A closer look at one of the rooms created in the sculpture.

Door Prizes

Trish Bloemker Sowers (L) and Kathleen Murphy (R) were attending
A Stitcher's Retreat for the fifth time. Pottery mugs with our logo
and the phrase "5 Time Attendee" are given to those who reach this milestone!

This year we were pleased to award two very special doorprizes: A free return
trip to a future retreat! Barb Bloemker (L, and the mother of Trish in the
previous photo) was selected based on being the 50th stitcher to sign up for
the retreat. The 50th person was chosen to honor Randy's parents, who
are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year!

Barb Lotti (R) won through the random doorprize drawing! Both will be
attending our Tenth Anniversary Retreat in 2007!

Miscellaneous Photos

Randy's parents, the inspiration for the 50th attendee being chosen for
the doorprize discussed above.

group of attending stitchers.

Barb Lotti had already planned to attend the 10th Anniversary retreat in
2007 but had not registered before the doorprizes. So she took great delight
in being able to rip her prepared check in half as she will
be attending for free next year!

Dick Wagar, Randy's college roommate, attended the retreat to assist
with the retreat.

College roommates and still the best of friends!
